Engineers Australia is proud to announce that 2011 is the Year of Humanitarian Engineering

Very early in Mayuran’s career, he was involved in a large scale iron ore mine-to-port rail project. The proposed rail alignment traversed a major flood plain area with a large town in the vicinity. For Mayuran, being able to help design the mitigation measures to protect the town and its people from potential flooding was very satisfying. It also demonstrated, at an early stage of his career, the huge impact that engineers can have on the wider community.
Now, Mayuran is responsible for two things – working with clients to help them make the best project and strategic decisions by considering the economic, environmental and social sustainability of their actions; and spreading the culture of sustainability and sustainability assessment throughout his organisation.
“I can honestly say that I come to work every day proud of what my team and I are doing, and knowing that I’m making a positive difference to my company, our clients, and hopefully over time, the world,” he says.
Mayuran is Regional EcoNomics™ Director - US/LAC Region at WorleyParsons.
