What is Civil Engineering?
Civil engineers form the backbone of modern society.
They design and construct most of the built world: buildings, bridges, roads, dams, pipelines, towers, transport systems, gas and water supplies, sewerage systems, harbours, airports, and railways.
Working from architects’ drawings, civil engineers consider everything from the suitability of construction materials to the impact of the structure on its surroundings.
Their role is to produce safe, economical and environmentally sound structures.
Specialisations include construction engineers, municipal engineers, structural engineers, transport engineers, or water supply distribution engineers.

In Australia, accreditation of undergraduate engineering programs is the responsibility of Engineers Australia.
Accreditation ensures academic institutions consistently meet national and international benchmarks, and engineering graduates of an accredited program are assured membership with us at the relevant career grade, and enjoy reciprocal privileges by equivalent professional bodies overseas.
There is a List of Accredited Programs on the Engineers Australia website. Follow this link for more information, and view the pdf's to see what programs Engineers Australia supports, and that may help you in finding the right institution for you. http://www.engineersaustralia.org.au/about-us/program-accreditation/program-accreditation_home.cfm
